Giving back to the communities and organizations that sustain us is the foundation that Phelan Insurance was built on. Our team of associates actively support and participate in community and professional organizations, events and local non-profits. We know that we wouldn’t exist without our customers. With this in mind, we proudly give back to the communities where our customers and associates live!
The Phelan Insurance Employees prepared and served Chicken & Noodles, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans and Desserts at the Versailles Community Meal on Wednesday, August 12th at Trinity Lutheran Church. It was a great time by all in attendance.
The Versailles Community Meal is held each Wednesday evening from 5-6:30 in the Trinity Lutheran Church Basement. Everyone in the community is invited – meals are eaten in, carried out, and delivered to those who are home bound or senior citizen. They serve approximately 100-125 meals each week.
The Ohio Department of Transportation District 7 would like to recognize Phelan Insurance for 25 years of service with the Adopt-A-Highway program. The group has been picking up litter along a two mile stretch of SR 47 in Darke County since 1990. Phelan Insurance became involved in the litter program when a friend of Jim & Carolyn Phelan told them about a litter pick up program in North Carolina. Carolyn signed the group up after discovering that Ohio had a similar program.
With 35 to 45 employees volunteering annually, the group picks up litter four times a year collecting about twelve bags each time. They divide their adopted roadway into four sections with a team assigned to each. It normally takes each team about 45 minutes to complete their section. Carol Brown, Karen Keiser, Cindy Langston and Tim Grow have been part of the group since the beginning.
The majority of litter found along their route includes beverage bottles, cans and fast food containers. The group is provided with gloves, trash bags and reflective safety vests before each pick up. At the end of the year, the agency provides an appreciation luncheon to everyone who helped.
ODOT, District 7 expresses its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Phelan Insurance for their commitment and dedication. Our appreciation also goes to all of the Adopt-A-Highway volunteers who have maintained their adopted roadsides.
Groups interested in adopting a highway may find information about the program on District 7’s website, http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D07/adoptahighway. Groups may also contact District 7’s Adopt-A-Highway Coordinator Joyce Wolfe at firstname.lastname@example.org or (937) 497-6801.
